This
Guide is the culmination of hundreds of hours of effort by
volunteers from NISD. As the weld is the most expensive material
in the finished support structure, it is very important that
detailers show the correct weld symbols on the completed shop drawing.
In this Guide, we have tried to give a basic understanding of the
elements of the welding symbol, and the weld symbol to be used to
achieve the desired weld.
The Guide is not intended to replace the American Welding Society, ASIC or
Canadian Welding Bureau texts, but instead to act as first reference, before
consulting other texts. In many cases, fabricators have their own set of
standards regarding welding, and these would take precedence over the Detailer's
Guide to Welding.
